That's according to the Irish National Teachers Organisation who say Irish primary school classes remain the largest in the European Union.
21 percent of schools in Cork have "supersized" classes of more than thirty students per classroom with 173 schools having at least one over-sized class.
The I.N.T.O is calling on government to reduce class sizes and commit to better learning outcomes for Irish primary school children.
Speaking to RedFM News I.N.T.O General Secretary John Boyle says proper resources need to be put in place:
We need to get her European average class sizes here in Ireland from budget 2022 We need to get support for small schools and for our principals that are teaching principals, and of course we need to get more funding for schools and if we're putting this big priority on education, there's no doubt, the teacher has kept saying it all year but how important is for schools to be open. If you want to see that through you have to put in the proper resources to support that.
