The INMO has expressed concerns that overcrowding at Cork University Hospital will peak at well over 100 patients as the winter season sets in.
Yesterday the hospital recorded a record high of 98 patients being treated on trolleys and chairs.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation say their members were under severe pressure trying to deliver safe health care in an unsafe overcrowded facility.
Colm Porter of the INMO in Cork told RedFM News the HSE South West need to roll out a plan focused on reducing the congestion at the hospital:
"There are also, you know, longer term measures that need to be taken, the bed capacity within the hospital needs to be increased as a matter of urgency, as does the bed capacity that's available to the health system in the community. and so the HSE Southwest really need to take action on this, and they need to be communicating to staff and the public about what they're doing."
