The situation in hospitals at present is extremely dangerous according to the INMO.
448 people are in hospital with Covid and 86 of those are in ICU
According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation 60 patients are being treated on trollies at Cork University and the Mercy University hospitals this lunchtime
The head of the HSE is warning the numbers in ICU is likely to increase but says it can be turned around with heightened individual and collective awareness
General Secretary of the INMO, Phil Ni Sheaghdha, says the situation is precarious:
"We've been flagging since mid July, that these numbers are going the wrong way. We have numbers, this winter. Last winter other, and we saw those numbers, much earlier this year, so in other words, our hospitals were overcrowded much earlier, combining that with an airborne infection. Were saying this is extremely, extremely dangerous."
