The Tanaiste has reacted positively to the news that Apple is to expand its Hollyhill operations with the construction of a new campus building that can accommodate 1300 employees
The global tech giant has applied to the County Council for planning permission for what it describes as brand new state of the art facilities.
Apple currently has around 6,000 employees in the city.
The news comes on foot of Merck's announcement on Monday of 370 new jobs for Cork in a €440 million investment in it's two manufacturing plants in Carrigtowhill and Blarney Business Park
Tanaiste Leo Varadkar says the Apple announcement is a real endorsement of Cork and Ireland as a prime location for leading global technology firms to grow.
"It's a real vote of confidence in Cork and the region, and further evidence of Apple's commitment to Ireland.
"I'm really delighted at that news, and the investment that's taking place and all the jobs that will be created."
