Taoiseach Simon Harris has contacted the Spanish Prime Minister to expressed Ireland’s horror and sorrow following the flooding disaster in the south and east of the country.
The number of victims of the flash floods is expected to climb further as the recue operation intensifies, so far 158 have been confirmed dead.
Emergency teams are continuing to search for those missing and hundreds of soldiers have been deployed to Valencia to assist with the operation
Speaking through an interpreter Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said all the resources of the state will be made available in the search and recovery operation:
"I would like to reaffirm the commitment of the government of Spain with the Valencian community, and once again express our solidarity with the victims, their families, and also convey the commitment of the government of Spain and all the units that belong to the National Civil Protection system to help by land, sea and air, by all means, for as long as it takes, with all possible resources to find the missing people right now."
