Australia and Canada have joined a list of countries to impose travel restrictions on arrivals from China over a surge in Covid. .
However ACI Europe - which represents Airports across the EU - claims testing is neither scientifically justified, nor risk-based.
Editor of Air and Travel Magazine Eoghan Corry says it appears to be more of a political response:
"In retrospect, nothing was achieved by imposing restrictions at the border. It sounds very good from a point of view of politicians saying, "Oh, we're doing this to save you. We're doing this to make things safer". Unfortunately, it was based on political expediency rather than science, which showed that very few of the infections were transmitted by travel".
