Austria will place millions of unvaccinated people in a nationwide lockdown as of midnight, the country's chancellor has said.
Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg told a news conference today that they 'must raise the vaccination rate' as it is 'shamefully low'.
Austria has one of the lowest rates in western Europe - 65 percent of the population is fully vaccinated.
The measure will mean that people who are unvaccinated will only be allowed to leave their homes for specific purposes, like going to a doctor or getting groceries.
Random checks will also be carried out to ensure compliance.
