The US President had branded Vladimir Putin a 'dictator'.
In his first State of the Union address Joe Biden said the world was choosing the side of peace and security.
He told Russian oligarchs and 'corrupt leaders' that the US and its allies would 'seize their yachts, their luxury apartments and their private jets', saying western sanctions would inflict pain on Russia's economy following its invasion of Ukraine.
President Biden announced a ban on all Russian flights from US airspace and said Russian forces have been met with a 'wall of strength' in the Ukrainian people.
"Russia's Vladimir Putin sought to shake the very foundations of the free world, thinking he could make it bend to his menacing ways, but he badly miscalculated.
"He thought he could roll in Ukraine and the world would roll over."
