British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is reportedly considering cutting the two-metre social distancing rule to one.
The Daily Telegraph says he'll bring in the change in England by September at the latest, so all children can return to school.
France, Denmark and China are among countries who advise keeping one metre apart.
The UK government's chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance has insisted the current guidance isn't a "rule".
"It is a risk based assessment on when risk reduces.
"So it is wrong to portray this as a scientific rule that says it is two metres or nothing.
"That has not what the advice has been and it is not what the advice is now."
