Brazil's granted a permit to build a motorway through one of the most preserved areas of the Amazon rainforest.
The 900-kilometre road is the only one connecting the largest Amazon city of Manaus to the rest of the country.
Experts believe it will lead to the mass clearing of the rainforest, as most deforestation happens alongside roads, where access is easier.
