Britain's first openly transgender MP is encouraging young people dealing with gender issues not to wait as long as he did - after coming out at the age of 37.
Conservative Jamie Wallis has been reflecting on his journey so far - and what's to come.
The member for Bridgend was widely praised for sharing details of his gender dysphoria diagnosis last month, as well as details of a rape, and blackmail:
"I would like to begin the process of transitioning. I'd like to do that as quickly as possible. I'd like to begin as quickly as possible. But it's not quick and it is challenging and difficult. There's lots of hurdles to overcome".
