The British Government has approved the extradition of Julian Assange to the US, where the WikiLeaks founder faces spying charges.

It's over the publication of leaked documents relating to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

Legal expert Anthony Hanratty thinks the British Home Secretary had no option but to sign the extradition order:

"The arguments around the treatment he will receive in the US, whether this is for political reasons, that's not actually something she can consider. I can't see under the current powers of the Home Secretary under the Extradition Act that she could refuse it".
