Cocoa, coffee and palm-oil that causes deforestation will be banned from Europe in the future.
A new law has been drafted through parliament and will now be negotiated with ministers - on demands that products like chocolate and furniture can only be imported if proven to be 'deforestation-free'.
It's estimated the EU market is responsible for ten per cent of deforestation around the world, and Irish Green MEP, Ciarán Cuffe, says a ban will help protect vulnerable habitats:
"It will make it much more difficult for companies and products that lead to this deforestation being put on the market in Europe, or being exported through Europe to elsewhere. So whether it's rubber plantations in the Far East, whether it's the Amazon rainforest, this is a good news story".
