Desperate pleas from Donald Trump's aides, allies and even family were ignored as the former US President refused to call off the mob attack on the Capitol.
Instead, he's alleged to have watched the violence unfold on TV in his dining room.
Thousands of his supporters stormed Congress in January last year, after Mr. Trump lost the presidential election to Joe Biden.
A committee has been looking into the background of the attack, the White House's former deputy press secretary, Sarah Matthews made these remarks:
"To me, his refusal to act and call off the mob that day and his refusal to condemn the violence was indefensible."
