A Government Minister has described mocked-up footage of a Russian nuclear strike destroying Ireland, as shocking and unacceptable.
The item was introduced by a close associate of Vladimir Putin on state television.
It depicts the obliteration of Ireland and Britain and falsely claims that the Boris Johnson has threatened a nuclear attack on Russia.
Environment Minister Eamon Ryan says he expects Irish diplomats will make the state's reaction to the clip known.
"One of the arguments is whether we should or not retain our embassy in Moscow, I've always said it was better to retain it because you can communicate.
"I believe it was state television where that clip was used.
"It's totally unacceptable, and I'm sure our diplomats in Moscow and our Department of Foreign Affairs here will be making that known."
