The European Union is asking member states to cut their gas consumption by 15%.
The president of the European Commission says a full cut off of Russian gas in the coming months is very likely.
The supply of Russian gas to Europe is now less than a third of what it was this time last year.
Ursula von der Leyen says this reduction should ensure countries get through the winter safely:
"15% wide is the equivalent to 45bcm of gas and with such a reduction, we can make it safely through this winter in case of a complete disruption of Russian gas. This is calculated under certain assumptions, but this would bring us if we save 15% to the storage safely through the winter."
