The EU leaders deal on a price cap on imported gas is being welcomed.
Ireland South MEP Billy Kelleher says it's a first step in trying to address runaway costs in electricity and gas.
The Taoiseach says the new EU agreement on gas prices won't immediately lower Irish bills.
MEP Kelleher says Europe has taken the right step:
"Clearly the European Union has to do something about trying to alleviate the pressures on families and businesses, and the threat that we could undermine our economies by the fact that electricity prices are so high. So it is a positive step but we have to do more in terms of ensuring that gas is not the price setter for for electricity in the time ahead".
