The European Commission will today sign a contract for 300,000,000 doses of a new Covid-19 vaccine.
The jab, created by Pfizer and BioNTech, has been found to be 90% effective.
Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen says when it becomes available it'll be distributed quickly to member states.
Ireland South MEP Sean Kelly says it's exciting news.
"Once it's signed and the go ahead is given to manufacture it, then distribution will happen very quickly because there is cooperation with member states and the Commission.
"So we could be looking at a vaccine in the new year, which would be very very good news for all of us."
