The Foreign Affairs Minister says the Irish government has concerns over UK plans to bring in a visa waiver system.
The changes would mean all non-Irish EU citizens living in the Republic need travel authorisation to cross the border.
The UK's Northern Ireland Secretary insists it won't lead to border checks.
Minister Simon Coveney says the Irish government's concerns have been ignored:
"The essence of our issue here is that for many years now, since a peace process was agreed, the creation of normality on this island has been based on uninterrupted travel opportunities and movement of people. And we think that's worth protecting. I suppose not for the first time, we'll be asking for special treatment to try to protect that relationship."
