The Foreign Affairs Minister says the war on Ukraine has fundamentally changed our world and how we do business
Minister Simon Coveney was speaking at a Cork Chamber breakfast briefing in the city this morning.
The Minister told business leaders in the city that they would be naïve to believe that the war will end soon and he says there will be worse impacts to come.
He outlined how he believes the impact of the war on food prices will be severely felt in the Autumn when he expects food inflation to hit retail stores.
Minister Simon Coveney says the Ukrainian war has brought about a permanent change to the landscape:
"It is fundamentally changing world politics by the week. Anybody who thinks that, you know, at some point in the next few months we'll get a ceasefire, everything will kind of go back to normal, sanctions will be removed, we'll go back to relying on Russia for oil and gas and fertilisers and feed products and so on, is either ill-informed or naïve. What's happening here is a bit like climate change; it's a permanent change, at least while the current leadership in the Kremlin remain".
