The former British soldier David Holden has been convicted of manslaughter of Aidan McAnespie in 1988 in Northern Ireland.
Mr McAnespie, who was 23 years old and un-armed, was shot after passing a military checkpoint in County Tyrone.
Aidan McAnespie lost his life after being shot in the back at an army checkpoint in Aughnacloy.
The 23 year old had been on his way to a Gaelic football match.
Former veteran David Holden, with an address, in court documents, of Victoria Street in Belfast, admitted to firing the fatal shot, but said it was an accident as his hands were wet.
In Belfast Crown Court today, the judge said, the now 53 year old was guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence, and that Mr Holden should have appreciated from the moment he pulled the trigger, the consequences of his actions.
