A former director general of the UK Border Force says the British government's scheme to send asylum seekers to Rwanda is a "radical proposal".
The plan has been criticised as "cruel and nasty" by charities, while Labour's called the move "unethical".
Yesterday 562 migrants were detected in small boats crossing the English Channel.
Chairman of the International Border Management and Technologies Association, Tony Smith, welcomes the use of the Royal Navy to patrol those waters:
"People won't want to bring themselves to our attention if they think there's a possibility that they're going to be sent to Rwanda. They may well try to evade our capabilities. I think it's right that the Royal Navy are brought in".
