In the UK, Downing Street has apologised to Buckingham Palace and called news of parties at Number Ten the night before Prince Philip's funeral 'deeply regrettable'.

While Boris Johnson wasn’t there, the gatherings would have breached Covid rules on indoor mixing at the time.

Labour’s deputy leader Angela Rayner says the British Prime Minister is the man responsible for attitudes at the heart of his government:

"This is a culture that has been set by the Prime Minister, which has said that we break the rules that we've made and that we don't have to follow them. It is absolutely devastating to many people who have witnessed that."
