Iranian students and staff of UCC are organising a rally in the city centre today - to show solidarity with the demonstrations which have swept across the Persian state in the past month.
The protests began after a 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, died in custody having being arrested by the Morality Police.
She was allegedly incorrectly wearing her hijab in violation of Iran's strict rules requiring women to cover their hair.
Women in Iran have since been publicly cutting their hair, or ripping off their headscarves calling for more freedoms.
The Iranian government has met the demonstrations with deathly force.
The Cork protest will take place in front of the city library, at half past two today, at the same time as a large Freedom of Iran protest in Berlin.
