Iran's president has reportedly said protesters should be "confronted decisively" following unrest sparked by the death of a woman in police custody.

22-year-old Mahsa Amini died after being arrested for allegedly wearing her hijab too loosely.

Ebrahim Raisi's told local media demonstrators are a threat to the country's "security and tranquillity".

Middle East expert Dr Sanam Vakil says this will be hard to contain:

"It's going to be very difficult for the state to get people back into their homes, and to take the streets back effectively, because every night people are coming out and protesting, burning their veils, cutting their hair, and showing that they've really had enough".
