Nine members of Ireland's special forces are en-route to Afghanistan to help evacuate the remaining Irish citizens there.
Upon arrival, the Army Rangers will be stationed at Kabul Airport and will liaise with other forces to get the 36 remaining citizens out.
The unit is joined on its mission by two officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs.
