Johnny Depp will face off with his ex-wife in a $50m defamation trial today.
He's suing Amber Heard in the US state of Virginia over an article she wrote for the Washington Post, in which she described herself as a victim of domestic violence.
The trial is being televised although the Judge has imposed certain reporting restrictions because of the graphic nature of some of the evidence.
New York based reporter Harriet Alexander says Depp claims his ex-wife's article destroyed his acting career.
"Johnny Depp sued her for defamation, arguing that it had ruined his career.
"It did have quite dramatic consequences in the United States here - days later was kicked off at the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise that was making him a huge amount of money, so he is suing for $50 million in damages in this defamation case."
