Boris Johnson has delivered his farewell speech outside a packed Downing Street.
The outgoing British Prime Minister will now fly to Balmoral in Scotland to meet the Queen and officially resign.
Giving his farewell speech, he looked back on his government's record - listing what he sees as achievements over Brexit, the war in Ukraine and the Covid vaccine rollout.
Mr Johnson said he would offer the new government his full support.
"Let me say that I am now like one of those booster rockets that has fulfilled its functions, and I will now be gently re-entering the atmosphere and splashing down invisibly in some remote corner of the pacific.
"And like Cincinnatus, I am returning to my plough.
"I will be offering this government nothing but my most fervent support."
