The Ukrainian Ambassador to Ireland will be received by the Lord Mayor of Cork city at City Hall this afternoon.

Cllr Colm Kelleher will receive her excellency Larysa Gerasko who will be attending a number of engagements in the city as Cork recieves hundres of refugees fleeing the war.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian refugee, now living in the former Convent of Mercy in Buttevant has told RedFM News that the bodies of many of her friends are still lying on the streets of her hometown of Bucha.

23-year-old Kateryna Kopachova fled the town, a suburb of Kyiv, but lost contact with her parents and sister in the process and has since learned that her sister is dead.

She said that Russian soldiers refused to allow them to bury their dead for several days - and then would only allow unmarked graves.

So far, scores of bodies have been found in Bucha following the withdrawal of Russian troops from the town.

Speaking to RedFM News, Kateryna says it's difficult to comprehend how utterly their once normal lives have changed.

"Everybody was so scared. My friends are still laying dead in the streets. I saw them dead, they were on the outside while they [the Russian army] shot at people.

"A lot of my neighbours are dead, and a lot of my friends. It is so difficult, we were living a normal life, and now we are walking the streets where our neighbours are lying down dead, and it is so hard to look at that."
