Major American cities have been put into lockdown to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus.
As the U.S. has officially recorded more than 3,000 cases of the virus, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered the shut down of schools, restaurants, bars and other public venues.
In a statement, de Blasio said, "This is not a decision I make lightly. These places are part of the heart and soul of our city. They are part of what it means to be a New Yorker. But our city is facing an unprecedented threat, and we must respond with a wartime mentality."
A similar approach is being taken on the West Coast in Los Angeles with Mayor Eric Garcetti announcing that they would follow New York by shutting down the city's bars, restaurants, gyms and cinemas but supermarkets will remain open.
Other states also deciding to close bars and restaurants are Illinois, Ohio, Massachusetts and Washington.
