A Spanish man has been arrested following the brutal murder of a homeless man believed to be from Cork in the Costa Del Sol last month.

The victim, who was in his 40s, was killed on March 12th as he interrupted an attempt to steal his belongings while he slept on a beach in Malaga.

A post-mortem revealed the man was kicked and punched to death, with his body being discovered after a jogger came upon it at around 6.30am.

Police arrested the 37 year old suspect at 7pm that evening after tracking him on CCTV - the Irish Mirror report that police recovered clothing which had the blood of his victim on it.

Police in Malaga are attempting to contact relatives of the man in an effort to repatriate his remains, and it's believed they have contacted Gardai in Cork.

Details of the investigation weren't shared by investigating police until this weekend.

The suspect in the case appeared before court three days after the killing - he has been remanded in custody for a further court appearance.
