New Zealand's prime minister's been caught swearing, while insulting a rival politician during a parliamentary debate.

Jacinda Ardern's remarks were picked up on a microphone as she returned to her seat following a series of questions from David Seymour, the leader of the opposition ACT party.

Ms Ardern's office says she's apologised for the comments made.
