Nine Irish soldiers killed in the Niemba Ambush in the Congo, will be remembered in Dublin today.
The soldiers were serving in a UN peacekeeping force in the central African state.
A mass will be held in Cathal Brugha Barracks at 12pm, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.
Cormac Kirwan of Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann says it was the biggest loss of Irish life overseas representing the Defence Forces:
"It's a significant event because it's an opportunity for the families and relatives of the fallen to attend, and it's also recognition by both those that are serving and veteran communities. It's a very sombre event and it's really important in our particular calendar, because one of our primary objectives would be in the whole area of remembrance".
