President Putin has responded to Western leaders imposing sanctions on Russia.
He's announced Russian gas must now be paid for in roubles.
Economists say the move appeared to be designed to try to support the Russian currency.
Speaking through a translator, Vladimir Putin said the measure will be introduced soon:
"I've decided, within a very short period, to introduce a number of measures to move payments for our natural gas delivered to the so called hostile countries for Russian Rubles."
