A controversial live-fire exercise by the Russian Navy is expected to begin off Ireland today.
However the exact location's unknown, after Russia agreed to move it into international waters, following complaints by fishermen and the government.
Meanwhile the Russian Foreign Minister has written to Ireland demanding "clear answers" on its stance on European security arrangements.
Security Correspondent with the Times Ireland, John Mooney, believes it's part of a wider Russian strategy.
"The Russian government last night communicated directly with the Irish government its responses to specific questions it had in relation to foreign policy.
"It wanted responses from individual countries within the European Union. It didn't want a collective a response from Europe.
"That is classic Russian foreign policy. It's aimed at dividing and conquering the European Union over its intentions towards Ukraine."
