The Scottish First Minister has indicated an independence referendum could be held there on October 19th, 2023.

Nicola Sturgeon has told the country's parliament she believes a referendum could be held even if the UK government continues to block her plan.

She insists the Scottish National Party's victory in elections last year gives her a mandate for another vote.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he's ready to hear Ms Sturgeon out:

"We think the number one priority for the country is the economic pressures, the spikes in the cost of energy. Our plan for a stronger economy certainly means that we think that we're stronger working together but we have good relations with the Scottish government, so we will see what she has to say."
