There should be no election in Northern Ireland for the next four and half years.
That's the view of Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith.
Deputy Smith says everything needs to be done to find a solution to the political impasse.
He says the people of Northern Ireland deserve to have a functioning government:
"We see over the last few days, the serious economic difficulties facing Britain. So we're well aware of the economic challenges out there. The people want their public representatives, their elected politicians making decisions to deal with those issues and acting in the best interest of all constituents".
