Talks on post-Brexit trading arrangements in the North are being described as 'a very positive development'.
That's the reaction of Green Party MEP Ciaran Cuffe to yesterday's talks between the British Prime Minister and the European Commission President.
However, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has apparently warned that dropping the Northern Ireland Protocol would be a "great mistake".
Johnson wants Britain to have the power to rip up parts of the Brexit treaty and ignore EU rules.
The current UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak insists a deal is "by no means done" following speculation that an agreement could be announced next week.
MEP Cuffe is welcoming the outcome of the British Prime Minister's discussions yesterday with Ursula von der Leyen:
"They also said that there is progress on the EU-UK relationship, and that they will stay in touch over the coming week, so I think this is an important step forward".
