The Taoiseach says he is hoping for a reset in relations between Ireland and the UK.
Micheál Martin was speaking in Midleton this evening ahead of the confirmation of Liz Truss as the new British Prime Minister tomorrow
She becomes only the third ever female UK Prime Minister - after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.
The relationship between Ireland and the UK has been strained in recent times by divisions over the Northern Ireland Protocol following Brexit.
Speaking to RedFM News, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says he hopes that the incoming Prime Minister will lead to better relations between both Ireland and the UK - and Europe and the UK:
"We have to wait and see obviously, and give the prime minister the opportunity to settle in. But suffice it to say, that if we collectively put the people of Northern Ireland at the centre of our attention and focus, and work to bring about changes to the operation of the Protocol that would facilitate concerns that have been legitimately raised, then I think we could well be on the pathway to finding a resolution".
