The Taoiseach says Ireland will continue to work with Europe to push for greater sanctions on Russia in the wake of the Ukrainian invasion.
The war has been ongoing since the 24th of February with little prospect of the end being in sight, resulting in the largest European humanitarian crisis since the Second World War.
Over 5.7 million people have fled the country, with over 27,000 arriving in Ireland since the outbreak of hostilities…
People have been given accommodation in a mix of hotels, private homes and in emergency accommodation centres such as the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet.
Speaking to RedFM News, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says Ireland’s response to the crisis has been 'extraordinary':
"There are substantial numbers being accommodated by the state through various hotel facilities, houses that were pledged through the Red Cross system, numbers have reduced somewhat but are still significant. We will continue to work with the European Union in terms of sanctions in terms of working collaboratively to keep the pressure on the Russian Federation".
