The Taoiseach says he 'strongly supports' Ukraine's application for membership of the EU.
Micheal Martin has been addressing the European Parliament this morning, reflecting on the 50 year' of Irish membership of the bloc.
He told MEPs what EU membership has meant for Ireland.
And the Taoiseach said when the European Council meets later this month, he hopes the people of Ukraine will receive a positive message.
"I strongly support Ukraine's application for membership, and I look forward to the commission's opinion.
"I hope that when the European Council meets in June it will be possible to send the people of Ukraine a clear and positive message."
