A mother has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of two of her children at a special sitting of Mullingar District Court last night.

48-year-old Lynn Egar, with an address at Winetown, Rathowen, Co Westmeath, appeared shortly after 8 o' clock.

Five-year-old Thelma Dennany and her two-year-old brother, Mikey, died in a car fire, in Co Westmeath on September 9th.

Micheál Martin has hit out at the failures of the UN Security Council in his last UN address as Taoiseach.
