Cork City Fire Brigade tackled a blaze in Cork city for almost 12 hours yesterday morning.

Gardaí are making enquiries after a fire at the former Good Shepherd Convent in Sunday’s Well.

Crews from Anglesea Street and Ballyvolane Fire Stations arrived at the scene at 3.30am and were still dampening down the flames the following afternoon.

A man is to appear in court today, charged in connection with a number of criminal damage incidents in Fermoy in County Cork.

A car drove down Mac Curtain Street, hit a pedestrian and damaged a number of parked cars on Saturday afternoon.

Budget negotiations continued into the earlier hours of this morning, ahead of tomorrow's announcement.

Italy's Democratic Party has conceded defeat in the country's election after an exit poll suggested the alliance led by far-right leader Giorgia Meloni is set for a clear majority in the next parliament.

Her "Brothers of Italy" party is expected to win up to 26 per cent of the vote.

Sunday's election could see the country have its first far-right government since World War Two.
