Taoiseach Leo Varadkar officially begins his St. Patrick's Day visit to Washington DC today.

The trip culminates with a meeting between Mr. Varadkar and US President Joe Biden on Friday.

The number of Irish families unable to heat their homes more than doubled in the last year.

A report by Friends of the Earth puts the increase down to inadequate incomes, inefficient housing, and high energy costs.

It also said the Government's new climate and energy poverty plans are failing to combat the energy price crisis and household reliance on fossil fuels.

The Government is being urged to consider the implementation of a 'Climate Ticket' to encourage more people to leave the car at home.

The Labour Party is calling for the introduction of a monthly, flat rate, climate transport ticket to help people make the move to public transport.

The ticket would entitle people across the country to unlimited travel, across all modes of transport, for just €9 per month.

A tenth arrest has been made by detectives investigating the shooting of a senior police officer in County Tyrone.

Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell was wounded after coaching a youth football team in Omagh last month.

He remains critical but stable.

A 45-year-old man was arrested in the Belfast area under the Terrorism Act yesterday evening.
