Almost 22,000 people over-75 waited over 24 hours in an emergency department last year, before being admitted or discharged.

It's one in every nine people in this age-group who went to an ED.

The worst was University Hospital Limerick, where over 2,700 waited more than 24 hours.

That's just 12 more than Cork University Hospital, while St Vincent's in Dublin had over 2,500.

A man has died following road traffic collision involving a truck and a car in Limerick

The collision happened on the N21 at Rathkeale shortly after 3 o' clock yesterday afternoon.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have been granted more time to question a 47-year-old man arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell in Omagh.

He is still in a critical condition after being shot multiple times a week ago today.
