That's according to former Minister and Labour party leader Pat Rabbitte.
32 Ministers will travel this March taking in places like Argentina, Australia and Canada.
He says that while cynicism around the overseas trips is to be expected, the resulting benefits in advertising Irish tourism abroad and establishing relations with other countries is 'unrivalled'.
And Pat Rabbitte says the Irish living overseas also welcome the connection with home:
"Well, whether it's the Irish diaspora abroad or whatever it is, St. Patrick's Day is established. There is a there is an impetus for that kind of thing amongst the Irish community everywhere and it does give us access that other countries would give their small finger for."
