Tsunami hit Tonga has been largely uncontactable since a volcanic eruption in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Casualty lists have yet to be issued, with relatives in places further afield praying for good news.
An underwater volcano erupted yesterday, with dramatic satellite footage of the blast going viral online.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says Tonga's 105,000 residents are essentially cut off from the world:
"Communication with Tonga remains very limited, and I know that is causing a huge amount of anxiety for the Tongan community here, who trying to get hold of loved ones back home. The main undersea communications cable has been impacted, likely due to the loss of power, and that is why communications have been limited, telecommunications, authorities are working, urgently to restore communication."
