The UK's health service has been the victim of a cyber attack.
Investigations are taking place to assess if patient data has been compromised.
A software supplier used by the NHS was targeted by ransomware on August 4th.
The company called ‘Advanced’ is now working with government agencies, including the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre to identify the attackers and the scale of the damage.
It is thought the attackers targeted systems used to refer patients for care, including ambulance dispatch, out of office bookings and triage.
A number of services have been taken offline as a result.
Full systems recovery is expected to take a number of weeks.
