Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiyy says his country's defences are holding up against Russian attacks, despite Moscow claiming to have taken control of the port city of Kherson.

Speaking a week into the conflict, he said "we have nothing to lose but our own freedom".

But officials in another port city, Mariupol, say Russians are "constantly and deliberately" shelling civilian infrastructure there.

Many are being left without water, heating or power.

Russia's foreign minister has gone on the attack against Western allies, and claims some world leaders are preparing for war with Moscow.

Sergei Lavrov had this to say about the US.

"Napoleon and Hitler, they had the objective to have the whole of Europe under their control - now Americans have Europe under their control."
