In the UK, Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner has described an article about her in the Mail on Sunday as "sexist" and "misogynistic".
The paper reported that Tory MPs had accused her of deliberately distracting Boris Johnson by crossing and uncrossing her legs during Prime Minister's Questions.
The story claimed it was reminiscent of the film Basic Instinct.
Conservative MP Caroline Nokes, chair of parliament's Women and Equalities Committee, says "cultural change" is needed:
"We need journalists and we need their editors to grow up and recognise that female politicians are here to stay and that they need to be reporting on what we do, how we vote, what we say and not how we look".
